How to select a linear module?

With the continuous upgrading of industrial automation,Linear modules are increasingly widely used in various fields. As long as there is a requirement for reciprocating linear motion on mechanical equipment, a linear module will be used. Let me briefly introduce the selection steps of linear modules and the issues that need to be paid attention to during the process.

 

1. Determine the load of the module

The payload of a linear slide platform is the ability to bear pressure, thrust, tension and the weight of an object. Different models of sliding tables carry different loads, and each module has the largest load. Secondly, the direction and structure of the module also affect the load size. For example, in a multi-axis combined coordinate sliding table, the load in the XY axial direction is higher than that of the Z axis. At this time, the load of the sliding table must be considered as the weight of the mold sliding table body and the motor.

 

2. Determine the speed of the module

The running speed of a linear module mainly depends on the lead of the ball screw and the motor power. It also reflects the production efficiency and output per unit time in industrial production. When the motor power and speed are constant, the larger the lead, the faster the module runs, and the load will be reduced.

3. Determine the repeat positioning accuracy of the linear module

The repeat positioning accuracy of the module is the smallest round-trip running distance of the slide on the module. It is also one of the parameters of the linear slide platform. It has high positioning accuracy requirements in many precision industries, such as cutting and welding in laser equipment, which determines the production efficiency and product quality. The accuracy of linear modules is mainly determined by the transmission method, the type of transmission components and the quality level. For example, the accuracy of the screw drive module is higher than that of the belt drive type, and the accuracy of the screw rod of the grinding grade is higher than that of the rolling grade.

 

4. Determine the effective itinerary of the module

The effective stroke or maximum stroke of a linear module refers to the distance from one end to the other during operation. It has an impact on the module specifications, installation space and installation method. Users need to make complete and comprehensive considerations before purchasing.

 

The selection of modules for the above four parameters is basically determined. The remaining factors can be analyzed in detail according to different application scenarios and equipment. For example, if there is dust in the working environment, you can choose a fully enclosed module or embedded module. When using vertically, the motor needs to be equipped with a brake. Different types of motors have different performances. The accuracy and speed of the servo motor are higher than that of stepper motors , but the price is also higher. There are also some other options for supporting components or equipment such as various sensors, drag chains, etc., or they can be selected according to specific needs.
